Summary

 

Position Summary
    
Serves the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic as a consultant and patient care provider. Ensures optimal application of respiratory care therapeutic modalities and aids in home-care education provided to Cystic Fibrosis patients. Works to provide Cystic Fibrosis patients with necessary equipment and supplies for at home therapies. Assists with planning, providing and evaluating the respiratory therapy educational opportunities for the staff. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of Cystic Fibrosis respiratory standards of care.


Essential Duties    

  1. Maintains all respiratory medications, complex supplies and equipment in Cystic Fibrosis Clinic areas required by regulatory agencies. Participates in inspections. Coordinates cleaning and assembly with central services and follows proper cleaning procedures.
  2. Develops and maintains policies and procedures in conjunction with management to meet Cystic Fibrosis specific guidelines.
  3. Provides ongoing patient education to promote awareness of Cystic Fibrosis disease process, compliance with medical treatments, proper equipment cleaning and maintenance and improvement of the health and quality of life of the patient.
  4. Recommends and implements appropriate interventions according to the patient’s clinical status and disease state. Documents necessary or relevant details of patient care and patient education, utilizing appropriate medical records, billing forms or other approved media.
  5. Completes annual intake questions with patients during office visits in order to monitor and assess home therapy procedures and equipment. Participates in discharge planning for patients with Cystic Fibrosis respiratory needs. Consults with members of the multidisciplinary patient care team to initiate, monitor and modify effective respiratory care modalities determined by patient needs and desired treatment outcomes.
  6. Creates, tracks and implements systems to assure follow-up care and coordination is accomplished. Tracks and monitors medication refills and equipment needs of patients. Assess and monitor patient’s equipment and in-home needs for airway clearance therapies.
  7. Writes appropriate respiratory care orders according to proper policy, procedure or other appropriate guidelines, relevant to each situation requiring RT Clinical Coordinator to write medical order.
  8. Performs technical procedures and operates equipment with high level of expertise. Maintains knowledge of infrequently used equipment and ordered patient therapeutics.
  9. Collects and correctly labels all sputum specimens from adult patients and delivers to lab in a timely manner.
  10. Withdraws arterial blood by single puncture per policy. Analyzes arterial blood samples and reports results accurately. 
  11. Submits final reports on procedures and testing noting reportable results with applicable documentation.
  12. Participates in pre-clinic huddles with multidisciplinary treatment team to prepare for clinics. Facilitates communication and coordination between health care team members.
  13. Maintains working knowledge of research protocols and ensures they are followed. Performs PFT reviews, competency testing, preventative maintenance of equipment and record keeping, including special projects, as requested.
  14. Leads and participates in the development, data collection and analysis of team-based quality improvement projects.
  15. Enters orders for respiratory equipment and supplies as needed under the direct supervision of a National Jewish Health healthcare provider in support of the patient’s treatment plan.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy required. BS in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred.
  2. Work Experience: Three years in respiratory therapy required. Two years of general medical, surgical or pediatric experience required.
  3. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Registered or certified as a Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care required. Current license with the State of Colorado required. CPR/BLS required. 

 

Salary Range: $28.00 - $34.00
