Summary

 

National Jewish Health, located in the heart of Denver, Colorado in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to serve in a leadership position as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager and Professional Development Specialist.

This position includes 50% time in clinical practice at National Jewish Health in a specialty that aligns with their education, training and experience, and 50% administrative time for leadership responsibilities. The APP Manger will oversee approximately 25 APPs across several specialty practice areas. The position also includes developing and implementing educational programs to support APP onboarding, continuing education, mentorship, professional development, and post-graduate fellowship.

We are seeking an APP with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Additional qualifications include experience leading APP teams, and developing, implementing, and evaluating APP educational programs.

Essential Duties

  1. Manages and develops an effective staff: providing effective communication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staff qualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects, hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels, disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety and regulatory compliance.
  2. Partners with Organizational, Department, and/or Division to track APP productivity and quality metrics.
  3. Partners with Division and interdisciplinary leaders to optimize APP roles and practice models at top of scope. 
  4. Participates in Department, Division, and/or organizational quality initiatives to identify improvements and implement changes as needed.
  5. Serves as communication liaison to APP Leads and staff regarding all clinical and administrative issues and concerns.
  6. Represents APPs at leadership meetings and ensures APP participation and engagement with AP Council and other organizational committees.
  7. Contributes to APP workforce planning and program development.
  8. Partners with Executive Director of Advanced Practice to establish structured onboarding, continuing education, and mentorship program for APPs to ensure appropriate preparation for professional roles throughout the career trajectory.
  9. Develops an onboarding & orientation program to prepare new APPs for their clinical role expectations and support APPs with expanded scope of practice expectations. 
  10. Develops a structure and process for evaluating competencies and educational resources to address knowledge gaps.
  11. Develops a mentorship program to support APP professional growth across the career trajectory.
  12. Collaborates with academic leaders to establish a post-graduate fellowship for subspecialty practice.
  13. Performs and documents history, physical exam, and medical decision making to support plan of care.
  14. Utilizes appropriate clinical resources to support evidence-based practice decisions.
  15. Collaborates with physicians, APPs, and all members of the care team to optimize patient care quality, safety, and efficiency. 
  16. Seeks out expertise of physicians and APP colleagues to support medical decision making as needed.
  17. Adheres to all regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and Medical Staff Bylaws governing advanced practice.
  18. Maintains continuing education to support knowledge and competencies required for clinical practice.

Other Duties

  1. Participates in Department, Division, and organizational committees.
  2. Participates in Advanced Practice Council meetings and activities.
  3. Accepts additional responsibilities which are within the scope of the APP Manager to support the strategic priorities of the organization.
  4. Accepts additional responsibilities which are within the scope of the APP to support the needs of the Department/Division/Program.

Travel
Travel between NJH sites of practice for APPs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: Graduate degree from accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) program required. Doctoral Degree preferred. 
  2. Work Experience: Minimum three years of clinical experience working as an APP. Two years of progressive leadership experience, and experience developing and implementing APP educational programs.
  3. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Colorado RN, APRN, and RXN licensure or PA licensure required. Active DEA registration. APRN or PA certification by national accrediting body (ANCC, PNCB, NCCPA). Active BLS, ACLS, or PALS appropriate to clinical practice area.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $170,000
