The Immediate Care Clinic at National Jewish Health is seeking an Acute Care Paramedic to join our team!  Our team is a close-knit group of professionals taking care of a variety of walk-in, same-day patients. We provide care for those experiencing respiratory illness, lacerations, sprains, strains, and other minor illnesses. We offer the opportunity to get to know and work with the entire National Jewish Health campus and interact with various departments. 

The clinic operates from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm. We offer a flexible schedule which includes two weekend shifts per month.  


Position Summary    

The Acute Care Paramedic under the direction of the designated department physician, advanced practice practitioner or charge nurse is responsible for implementing technical, basic and advanced procedures and care to pediatric and adult patients. The quality of care and service given will adhere to the philosophy and objectives of National Jewish Health in order to meet the healthcare needs of patients and their families. The Acute Care Paramedic works responsibly under the direct supervision and responsibility of the physicians performing care for patient(s) in accordance with physician's orders, policies, procedures, established standards and administrative policies. The Acute Care Paramedic provides emergent/urgent patient care under the direction of a physician, advanced practice provider and/or registered nurse.  

Essential Duties

  1. Performs technical procedures as delegated, including establishing IV access, collecting specimens, providing wound care and providing advanced life support to patients in emergency situations.  May perform ECGs and vital statistics/telemetry monitoring.
  2. Completes a variety of medical services including verifying patient information; reviewing and updating medical records; taking vital signs; administering medications per policy and procedures; supporting airway management; providing phlebotomy, etc.
  3. Assists health care providers during examinations; prepares laboratory specimens; performs basic testing; disposes of contaminated supplies, and cleans or prepares for sterilization of medical instruments.
  4. Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinical flow by coordinating with care providers, and monitoring patient flow.
  5. Provides standardized education for patients and families through written and verbal instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
  6. Provides basic respiratory therapy and airway management to patients.
  7. Serves as the preceptor and mentor to other team members, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
  8. Cross trains to cover multiple roles within department (e.g. patient watches, covers breaks/shifts for Administrative Professional role and performs non-medical duties as requested by administration.
  9. Completes, maintains and submits requisite reports and compliance measures.
  10. Orders, restocks and manages inventory of medical supplies.  Assists with patient flow and keeping patient rooms clean, stocked, and orderly.
  11. Participates in hospital committees, as directed by leadership.
  12. Reports abnormal assessment findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to medical/nursing staff. 
  13. Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; and arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  2. Work Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in the clinical setting as a Paramedic. Preferred 1-2 years of Emergency Room or Urgent Care experience preferred. 
  3. Special Training, Certification or Licensure: Current AHA Healthcare Provider (BLS), ACLS Provider, PALS Provider certifications. Current certification in the State of Colorado as a Paramedic.

Salary Range: $21.00 - $26.00
