Summary

Position Summary
    

The Payroll Accountant will process all payroll functions ensuring pay is processed timely, accurately and in compliance with all regulatory agencies.  Recommends improvements to the Payroll Manager regarding regular accounting tasks and related internal controls and creatively develops new ways to accomplish operational objectives in a more effective and efficient manner.  

 

Essential Duties    

  1. Processes all payroll functions to ensure timely and accurate posting including but not limited to pay-cycles, garnishments, tax payments, levies, child support, retro merit increases, salary adjustments.  
  2. Responsible for creating, reviewing, and submitting journal entries.
  3. Completes audits.  Where necessary, schedules and conducts follow-up audits, to ensure recommendations are implemented.
  4. Establishes accounting policies and procedures, insures compliance with a variety of professional practice and regulatory standards, including pay standards, GAAP, IRS, etc.
  5. Analyzes internal controls regarding payroll, within programs, systems, and processes; evaluates the impact of internal control weaknesses; and makes strategic recommendations for cost effective improvements to reduce significant business risks within reasonable risk tolerances.  
  6. Understands the institution’s operations and systems including, but not limited to:  Accounts Payable, Budget, Human Resources, General Accounting, and Treasury.
  7. Maintains employee confidentiality and any other confidential information obtained while performing job duties.  Ensures compliance with appropriate regulations and legal agency requirements.

Minimum Qualifications


Education:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Work Experience:A minimum of 3 years progressive accounting experience is required, including at least 2 years of payroll experience.

Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00
